The day after

This will probably be my only political post.  Take it or leave it.  All comments will stay as is.

This wasn’t just a one issue election for me.  I looked at where they stand on all the issues then I made my choice.  I purposefully missed the debates and Obama’s infomercial.

The issue:  Energy

We need to look at alternative energy.  Wind/solar/geothermal power.  Drilling off shore seems so short-sited to me and will eventually run out.  We need to increase MPG on new cars and develop more hybrid cars.  My vote:  Obama

Taxes:

The  middle class have been hit hard.  The upper class and big businesses seem to pay very little in what is earned.  My vote:  Obama

Abortion:

I am Pro-life.  Abortion is NOT birth control.  Should the baby suffer the consequences of death just because the sperm donor raped a woman?  No.  If the woman’s life is in danger, ectopic pregnancy, then it is probably the only option.  My vote:  McCain

Iran/Iraq/Afganistan:

The US is not welcome in Iraq & Iran in the first place.  The US is there on false pretenses.  This is a war that we cannot win.  I KNOW that freedom is not free.   I thank the military for keeping me free.  The US needs to reduce the troops, make a timetable and get the hell out.  How can someone be so against abortion (the killing of baby’s who have no choice in the matter) but little regard to adults?  To ME that seems hypocritical.  My vote:  Obama.

That’s it in a nutshell.  Feel free to agree, disagree or whatever.

  1. I think I would be pretty comfortable in your nutshell.

  2. No wonder I like you. 😀

  3. I think in this day and age, you have to have your head in the sand to deny we need to find an alternative fuel source. Relying on foreign oil is part of what led us up to these sad times. I think that while researching and creating new fuel, we should utilize our own oil sources if we are being held hostage by those that control us with oil.

I agree with you on the abortion issue. It breaks my heart to hear of anyone having one and could not in good faith vote for someone that supports abortion. I’m not naive enough to think it will ever be reversed but it gives me pause when I hear a candidate is pro-abortion.

The war is a huge issue and I feel torn over that. It needs to end but we also need to stay vigelant against those that are evil. Saddam was in fact evil and I think he needed to be stopped. Iraq is still an unsteady place but it’s not our nation to govern. It would seem as though one of these days, we could get them on their feet long enough to move on.

Taxes… well, thats a complicated matter. The problem with taxing ‘big business’ is that we the consumer are who pays for that tax. Big business is just going to raise the cost of their goods/service to recoup that loss. In the end, the middle always will pay with our current tax system. I believe our government is wasteful of the dollars they take from us already and a new system of how we are taxed AND how it is spent should be resurected. I think that our representatives make way too much money for the crappy job they do. I don’t understand why they are paid so much for doing so little.

Alright, there’s all my cents worth. Aren’t you glad you asked? 😉

  4. That’s the great thing about this country. I might not like your opinions, they might be different, but i WILL respect our differences. I admit, that tax issue is tricky. A new taxing system is needed.

  5. I knew there was a reason we got along so well. I just never realized our views were so close! I like you all that much more now! 🙂

  6. I voted.
    Here’s a kinda off-topic comment-
whether one likes Obama or not, I think everyone can agree that it is so tragic that his grandmother missed out on seeing him win the election & make history by just ONE DAY. She helped raise him and I know he would have wanted to share his victory with her. It must be bittersweet for him right now.

  7. I agree with you on everything but your stance on abortion.

I do believe in the right to choose. With that said, I don’t view abortion as a form of birth control. I don’t believe it should be used to avoid birth defect babies.

But I also do not think a woman should be punished because she ended up in the wrong place and got raped.

I guess I’ll leave it at that. 🙂

  8. The abortion issue is tricky. I know that I personally would never have one unless there is a very extreme reason for me to. For the most part, I was pro-life, except for those who were pregnant because of rape or incest. I’m not sure when or at what point it changed.

I do believe that by making abortion illegal would do more harm than good. Women who are so insistent on having one would be reduced to drastic measures and more harm would come.
