Frustrated beyond belief

I’ve been unemployed since December 4, 2013.  I was RIF’ed (Reduction in Force) with 11 others.  Who would figure that I’d still be unemployed 6 months plus later?  Certainly not me.

I’ve loved being home, so don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t pay the bills.  UI (Unemployment Insurance) helped a little, but not much.  Fortunately hubs is still working, so we have insurance.

Sure I’ve applied for jobs which I’ve been underqualified for, but I figured, what the heck?  I’ve also applied to jobs I was qualified for.  And of course, jobs that I’ve been overqualifed for.

I’ve been in the mortgage business in some capacity for from 1999 to 12/3/13 from everything from closing to the end.  I’ve applied for several “mortgage processor” positions, and haven’t been hired for any of them yet.  No processor experience despite being familiar with what it entails.

Before that, I’ve worked retail.  Mostly in HS and college.  Though since it was so long ago, it never makes it on the application.  So I’ve been turned down.

  • For Penney’s, I had to take some sort of preliminary assessment with the application.  It told me right off the bat, we have no jobs that meet your skills, or at least that was the gist of it.
  • We appreciate the time you have taken to apply for employment with Dollar General, specifically your interest in the 17972BR LEAD SALES ASSOC-PT, 613 W RAAB RD, NORMAL IL position. At this time we have made the decision to pursue other candidates. You will be eligible to reapply and take our online assessment 6 months from your original assessment date of May 29, 2014
  • Thank you for completing all steps of our application process for the SALES ASSOCIATE position at the following  location with The Children’s Place: NORMAL, IL.

  •  Unfortunately, there is no position that meets your qualifications at this time.

  •  We respectfully ask that you do not call the store to check the status of your application.

I’m searching administrative assistant/secretary positions, but most require 1-5 years experience.  I don’t have that.

  • Thank you for your interest in employment as Secretary at the Bloomington Public Library.  We recently interviewed numerous candidates (not me) and have chosen one whose experience, technical skills, and other attributes most closely match our needs at this time.
  • Thank you for your application for the full-time position of Secretary — Business Office (Heartland Community College).  While your application is no longer being considered for this position, you were among a field of highly qualified applicants.

I’m looking at accounting/bookkeeping type positions.  Again, no experience/degree, so no job.  Coding job at a hospital?  Nope.  No experience.  I can’t even take classes to get coding certification because I can’t afford them.  Any job requiring web development or programming?  Forget it.

I’ve had interviews, I’ve taken assessments, I’ve waited,I’ve been rejected more times than I care to count.  I’m frustrated.
